Aldelo Releases “QR Code Scan & Pay” Feature

​Bridge the gap between physical receipts and digital payments with Aldelo’s new QR Code Scan & Pay feature. This new feature allows customers to quickly and seamlessly complete secure digital payments from their personal smartphone in sit-down, takeout, and event settings.

QR Code Scan & Pay is ideal for streamlining payments whenever and wherever a physical receipt is presented to a guest. Restaurants present customers with a printed receipt after their orders are completed. Customers then scan the single-use QR code, selecting their method of payment to complete transactions without physical gift, loyalty, or credit cards changing hands. This feature allows customers the flexibility and freedom to pay without staff assistance, as well as enhanced security benefits since the expirable QR code identifier is never associated with underlying payment data.

​​Since March of 2020, restaurant owners faced what seems like a lifetime of challenges that have threatened long-standing businesses and livelihoods. Labor shortages impacted the restaurant industry despite an enormous amount of job openings for all job positions in the sector. Restaurant owners and operators personally filled the gaps in their operations by dedicating extra hours taking on a variety of job functions previously held by hostesses, servers, kitchen and support staff.

In 2021, increased demand and a shortage of semi-conductor chips slowed manufacturing production resulting in a backlog of shipments that is bringing supply-chains to a halt at US cargo ports. Specifically impacting restaurants was the inability to obtain equipment that runs the POS technology and solutions required to manage restaurants and serve customers. Mission-critical point-of-sale products such as touch-screen terminals, payment devices, printers, cash drawers, and other components are still expected to face drastic production and shipping delays well into 2022, while dramatically increasing in price.

Restaurant adoption of seamlessly integrated online, mobile, and remote ordering and payment solutions helped restaurant owners successfully navigate the supply and labor shortages in 2021. These digital solutions prompt customers to work in tandem with merchants and enable restaurants to serve customers in creative, new, and lucrative ways in-store, online, outdoors, and off-site.

NTEP certified scales are required by restaurants when weighing any product and selling it directly to the customer based on the weight provided. NTEP certification provides consumers with the confidence that they are getting what they paid for by requiring a high degree of readability on the scale. The certification also confirms that restaurants are weighing products accurately and not giving away profits.

NTEP stands for National Type Evaluation Program, an approval system created by the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) and the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).

​Forty percent of customers prefer to split checks when dining with friends. * Some guests pay their own way by alerting the waiter before ordering, while other parties load a group bill onto one card and pay back the cardholder after the meal. For those in groups tasked with itemizing a group’s guest check, the process is time consuming and tedious and there are always items that fall through the cracks. The experience is stressful and defeats the purpose of getting together for a fun and relaxing meal.

From family gatherings to get-togethers with friends, both diners and staff are familiar with the infamous “check war.” It is the battle of wills between family and friends insisting “dinner is on them” or they’ve “got it covered.” It is the race to grab the check as soon as the server arrives with the little black book at the table. Typically, the result is a compromise that results in portioning and separating the final check amount. Whether the debate at the table is tiresome or amusing, at the very least, it is guaranteed to happen at least once on any shift.

The Two Drink Minimum is a staple at comedy clubs, night clubs, Jazz clubs and bars across the United States.  Its intent is to guarantee a minimum food or drink ticket for each guest and help a venue recover the cost of operations at the same time lowering the entry fee to the club or bar. (Probably helps you laugh a little more at some bad jokes too).  This is enforced by a variety of methods from upfront charges that get you tickets or tokens to trade in for drinks, to ticket requirements built into the point of sale. (This is supported in Aldelo POS for Windows and Aldelo Express for iPad and Android)
