As soon as New Year’s Day has passed, pink, red, and white sweets and treats deck store aisles. Restaurants, grocery stores, movie theaters, shopping malls, and local businesses everywhere begin the year’s first big marketing campaign to help customers celebrate Valentine’s Day, grossing over $19 billion in the U.S. each year.* But in addition to promoting limited-time offers and special menu items to mark February 14, here are other fun events restaurants can participate in to promote their menu and services and differentiate their business from others in the community during the month of February.
Super Bowl Sunday - Feb. 13
Super Bowl Sunday is an iconic American tradition, complete with football, friends, and a lot of food. On average, every American spends $74 in anticipation of Super Bowl Sunday, primarily on food and drink purchases.** Though many customers will avoid large gatherings this year due to coronavirus concerns, the Super Bowl is still a great way for restaurants to promote their convenient online ordering, takeout, curbside pickup, and delivery services to help customers enjoy the event at home. Owners can best leverage their offers with incentives tied to gift cards, menu items, and rewards.

“Galentine’s” Day - Feb. 13
Galentine’s Day occurs every year on February 13 as a day for friends to celebrate meaningful “gals” in their lives with food, drinks, and quality time. Restaurants can take the opportunity to make these customers feel like VIPs with Galentine’s Day promotions, discounts, and events including live music, karaoke, dancing, comedy shows, or game nights. Event nights also pose an opportunity for restaurants to encourage customers to join their loyalty and rewards programs, offering free items or discounts for customers who sign up within a given time frame.
Since the Super Bowl and Galentine’s Day fall on the same day this year, restaurants can promote both events to serve both gatherings.
President’s Day - Feb. 21
President’s Day is a federal holiday in the United States, originally established in honor of George Washington’s birthday. Today, organizations and communities use the day to recognize former U.S. presidents in public gatherings and educational events. Restaurants looking to become more involved in their local communities can service these events, or partake in the observance by offering discounted and complimentary menu items with patriotic themes, such as apple pie, ice cream, or hot dogs. Customers will appreciate the patriotic nod, and be more likely to remember the restaurant on similar holidays such as the Fourth of July.
National Margarita Day - Feb. 22
Margaritas were largely popularized in the U.S. through a 1953 edition of Esquire men’s magazine and Jimmy Buffet’s famous song “Margaritaville,” released in 1977. Since then, the tequila-based, salt-rimmed cocktail is widely favored and most commonly found in Mexican and hispanic restaurants. As more states consider laws that permanently allow off-premises alcohol purchases and delivery from restaurants and bars, owners and operators can celebrate National Margarita Day with margarita specials and limited-time take-home cocktail kits.
National Chili Day - Feb. 24
Chili is a traditional dish typically consisting of tomatoes, beans, chili peppers, meat, garlic, onions, and cumin. The recipe originates from Central and South America, and was popularized in the U.S. in the late 1800s. While chili can be enjoyed on its own, it also serves as a great topping for hot dogs, french fries, baked potatoes, burgers, rice, and mac ‘n’ cheese. Restaurants looking to promote a fun new dish can try adding chili to their digital menus and online storefront.
Advertise with Custom QR Codes
Creating announcements and fliers for these events with a restaurant’s unique QR code that takes customers to their digital menu will help promote special offerings, increasing awareness and orders.
QR code-enabled Masa+ digital menus let restaurants promote digital solutions on their website, social media, signage, or table tent cards, enabling customers to easily scan, order, and pay to streamline operations in any environment. Masa+ also provides native physical and digital Loyalty, Rewards, Gift Card, and Coupon programs for any-sized operations.

Restaurants are Putting Customers First
with Digital Commerce and Self-Service Restaurant POS Solutions 4-minute read ---
Of the many roles of restaurant owners, operators, and staff, their primary task is to put customers first with unique food and drinks, excellent customer services, and memorable guest experiences. So, when nation-wide lockdowns began in March 2020, preventing customers from patronizing businesses in-person, owners and operators were challenged to put customers first with innovative, contactless services that required minimal in-person interactions. |
